a comparative study of prevalence for anxiety disorders in bipolar i patients with or without opioid dependency

background: anxiety disorders and substance abuse are commonest comorbidities among bipolar i disorder (bid) patients. this study investigated the prevalence of anxiety disorders among bid patients based on their dependency on opioid. methods: in this cross sectional study the bid patients in iranian hospital of psychiatry were divided into two 89-patient groups; one group was considered as opioid dependent and the other as non-dependent. then clinical characteristics and prevalence of anxiety disorders were inspected by demographic and clinical questionnaire, the structured clinical interview for dsm-iv axis i disorders (persian version), hamilton rating scale for depression and young rating scale for mania. the collected data were analyzed using t-test, chi square and logistic regression. results: among anxiety disorders, only panic disorder was significantly different  between two groups of bid patients conclusion: there is a different correlation between opioid dependency and comorbidity of various types of anxiety disorders in bid patients.
